Haiti Earthquake Relief

I received an email this morning from the okvim(volunteer in missions) organization that I went to Nicaragua with in 2009. While they are not needing volunteers to go to Haiti at this time they are needing health kits for the victims.

 

T Ray Ministries is providing a place for you to send health kits or money to purchase materials for health kits that are desperately needed in Haiti.

 

Through seeking God in prayer of "what I could do", God spoke to my spirit and said you can be a liaison between community and okvim.

 

So this is what I am doing. T Ray Ministries is obtaining supplies to put together some health kits. If you would like to put a kit or some kits together and get them to me that is super. If you don't want to do that and want to provide some kits you can send the money to me marked "Haiti Health Kits" and I will assemble them for you. I will be going to OKC Tuesday January, 19 and will deliver the kits to the Oklahoma Volunteer In Missions office.

 

I can make a second trip if I need to.

 

I know it isn't much notice, but disasters don't seem to give us warning.

 

We must respond as needed.

Health Kit

Health kits provide basic necessities to people who have been forced to leave their homes

because of human conflict or natural disaster. Health kits are also used as learning tools in

personal hygiene, literacy, nutrition and cooking classes. When people gain the knowledge and

materials to maintain personal hygiene, their overall health improves.

 

Contents:

1 hand towel (from 15" x 25" up to 17" x 27")

1 washcloth

1 comb (large and sturdy, not pocket‐sized)

1 nail file or fingernail clippers (no emery boards or toenail clippers)

1 bath‐size bar of soap (3 oz. and up)

1 toothbrush (single brushes only in original wrapper, No child‐size brushes)

1 large tube of toothpaste (4.5 oz. or larger, expiration date must be 6 months)

6 adhesive plastic strip sterile bandages

Place these items inside a sealed one‐gallon plastic bag. It should cost around $12 per kit. In a

separate envelope, please send a check for at least $1 for each kit to help UMCOR Sager Brown

with the costs of processing and shipping kits around the world.
